History
The association was founded in 1989 under the name «Verein Nottelefon für vergewaltigte Frauen». On April 1, 1990, the counseling center «Nottelefon für vergewaltigte Frauen» began its work. With the introduction of the Victim Assistance Act in 1993, it was recognized as a cantonal victim assistance counselling centre.
Over the years, several name changes reflected the further development of the organization: in 1995 it became the «Women's emergency hotline, advice centre against sexual violence», in 2004 the «Women's emergency hotline, advice centre for women affected by violence» and in 2015 the «Women's emergency hotline, advice centre, victim support for women ● against violence».
The women's helpline has grown continuously during this time. Since January 2026, the advice center has been called «fiera Opferberatung Winterthur». The claim «for women* against violence» underlines its ongoing commitment to women* affected by violence. This commitment is the constant in the ongoing development of the advice center.
